What OTs miss in Oklahoma

Can I practice in Oklahoma on an OT Compact privilege?

Oklahoma has enacted the OT Compact but is not issuing privileges yet. Until it does, practicing here takes a Oklahoma license, and a Oklahoma license does not yet give you a privilege anywhere else.

  • Enacted, not issuing yet

Can an OT licensed in another state get a Oklahoma license by endorsement?

OTs and OTAs licensed by examination in another state, DC or Puerto Rico can be licensed by endorsement with proof of passing the NBCOT exam. Anyone not working in the past year may be interviewed, and an exam over five years old can bring CE, supervised practice or a retake.

  • Endorsement route available

Citation: Okla. Admin. Code 435:30-1-4

Which exams does Oklahoma require for a license?

The board accepts the NBCOT exam, with scores sent through an approved reporting service. The OT rules do not list a state jurisprudence exam.

  • NBCOT exam
  • No state jurisprudence exam

Does Oklahoma offer a temporary or limited OT license?

Endorsement applicants can get a temporary license for up to 90 days once the board has the application and a completed Verification of Supervision form. New graduates instead practice under direct on-site supervision by letter for up to a year while awaiting the exam.

  • Temporary or limited license available

What OTAs need to know in Oklahoma

OTAs work under general supervision, and the supervising OT signs Form 5, Verification of Supervision. One OT may sign for no more than four OTAs or applicants without committee permission, and must keep a record of all consultations.

How often does a Oklahoma OT license renew?

Licenses renew every year by October 31, but the CE requirement is 20 contact hours every two years.

  • Renews every year
  • 20 CE hours per cycle
