What OTs miss in Rhode Island

Can I practice in Rhode Island on an OT Compact privilege?

Rhode Island has enacted the OT Compact but is not issuing privileges yet. Until it does, practicing here takes a Rhode Island license, and a Rhode Island license does not yet give you a privilege anywhere else.

Can an OT licensed in another state get a Rhode Island license by endorsement?

OTs and OTAs licensed or regulated in another state, territory or DC can apply by endorsement on the same form as exam applicants. You send transcripts, NBCOT results and a status statement from every state board where you have held a license. Applications are due 30 days before the board meeting that will review them.

  • Endorsement route available

Does Rhode Island offer a temporary or limited OT license?

A new graduate with a completed application can work as a "graduate occupational therapist" or "graduate occupational therapy assistant" under a Rhode Island OT's supervision for up to 90 days, until passing the exam.
